Planning for digital assets and online information has become an important part of estate plans. Outdated estate plans oftentimes do not include provisions about a decedent’s digital assets and online information, and many companies do not have any provisions in their user license agreement either. Earlier this year Facebook finally decided how to handle photo and friend requests of its deceased users.
According to Facebook and this Bloomberg article, Facebook users can now appoint a so-called Legacy Contact to be in charge of their digital legacy. The Legacy Contact gets to make one last public post, download all of the loved one’s Facebook photos, and respond to friend requests.
Changing your settings to appoint your legacy Facebook contact is 4 clicks away and can be done in less than a minute. Follow the arrows below to set your legacy contact.
